Our Story

You may say it all started here… a 1920s childhood home in Pimperne, Dorset, with its manicured grass court that provided the opportunities leading Michael Roy "Bob" Cherry to compete in Junior Wimbledon and The Queens Club tournaments of the day…

Such created a strong affiliation for tennis in our Cherry family tree, with many hours being spent on various courts with friends or in not-so-friendly competition - below Johannesburg's Spring jacaranda trees ablaze, darting between Summer thunderstorm puddles, or sweeping up Autumn leaves.

Tennis was played at school, on holiday, as well as Cherry sister 2/4 having her weekly Friday 'ladies tennis and tea', where a lifelong friendship between five women was forged despite who was on which side of the net and who was giggling too much

The difference that drives the courture brand is the tacit knowledge of the true functionality of the sport and ingrained meaning of sharing moments on court, as well as the sporting history encapsulated by such a neon yellow ball when lovingly designing our items. It is this history that we look back on when propelling our designs into funky freshness to reflect the current global milieu and concerns. There is always a pop to our items, whether through colour, design or considered detailing.

Our creative team have backgrounds in Art, Architecture, Engineering and Design, as well as Tennis coaching certification and trophies ranging from 'best' [1969] to 'worst' [2015] player of the season, to bring the courture vision to life.

Through its founding, courture aims to embody the fun that is inherent in every game.

And what happened to the original family grass tennis court you may ask? You will be happy to hear it’s still in play and excellently maintained, with the addition of some French lavender along it borders, along with many a joyful midday shot causing glee and consternation on opposite sides of the net. Happily resided by an artist in spirit and heart, to keep the family connections alive…
